Among the guest readers who will be participating at this opening event, we have Kate Noakes (England), Lisa Pasold (Canada), Anna O (France), Aden Elias (France), Paul LaBorde (France), Bill Strangmeyer (USA), Frederic Benhaim (France and USA) and host co-curators Jacob Bromberg and Jennifer K Dick. 

This will be a reading by many voices as late afternoon falls into dusk, as the first official rentrée month moves towards its close, as the trains coming into the Gare de Lyon from the south carry fewer bikini and towel-toting visitors and gives way to the fall business folks.

Rebecca WOLFF is the author of three books of poems: Manderley (U. of Illinois Press, 2001), which was selected by Robert Pinsky for the National Poetry Series; Figment (W. W. Norton, 2004), which received the 2003 Barnard Women Poets Prize; and The King (Norton, 2009). She is equally the author of a novel, The Beginners (Riverhead, 2011).

Wolff is the founding editor of Fence, a biannual journal of poetry, fiction, and “other,” which is published in partnership with the Writers Institute and the University at Albany. She also founded Fence Books, which publishes poetry, fiction, and critical texts and anthologies. Wolff received her MFA from the Iowa Writers Workshop, where she was assistant editor of the Iowa Review. She lives in Athens, New York.

Graham FOUST is the author of five books of poetry – including Necessary Stranger (a finalist for the 2007 Northern California Book Award) and To Anacreon in Heaven and Other Poems, both from Flood Editions – and co-translator of Ernst Meister's Im Zetspalt [In Time's Rift] (Wave Books, 2012).  He works at the university of Denver.

Samuel FREDERICK is an assistant professor of German at the Pennsylvania State University. He is the author of Narratives Unsettled: Digression in Robert Walser, Thomas Bernhard, and Adalbert Stifter (Northwestern University Press) and co-translator of Ernst Meister's Im Zetspalt [In Time's Rift] (Wave Books, 2012).

Paul LABORDE is a poet and translator. His first book, Sables, was published in 2013 by Cheyne Éditeur in their Collection Grise. Laborde teaches philosophy at Paris IV - Sorbonne and plays basketball on the university's team.

JEFFREY YANG Jeffrey Yang is the author of An Aquarium (2008--winner of the PEN/Joyce Osterweil Prize) and Vanishing- Line (2011), and the translator of Liu Xiaobo’s June Fourth Elegies (2012), all published by Graywolf Press. He is also the translator of Su Shi's East Slope and a collection of classical Chinese poems called Rhythm 226. , and editor of the anthology Time of Grief: Mourning Poems (New Directions, 2013) and Birds, Beasts, & Seas: Nature Poems from New Directions. JONATHAN REGIER’s first book of poetry was published by Six Gallery Press (Pittsburgh, PA) in 2008. He’s now toward the end of his PhD in the history and philosophy of science at Université Paris 7, where he also teaches. Recently, his poetry has appeared in journals such as Diagram, Upstairs at Duroc,  or elimae, and his essays and book reviews have appeared in Drunken Boat and the Huffington Post. He has collaborated with authors, dancers and artists. His new chapbook, Rotation, is a limited-edition handmade art object designed and illustrated by SARAH LARIVIERE, published by her imprint, Color Treasury (pictured at right). 

CHRISTINE HERZER,  is a poet and visual artist currently in residence at La Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris. She is the author of i cheated on Chanel No.5 (Dancing Girl Press, 2013) and i wanted to be a pirate (h-ngm_n eBooks, 2009). Her work appears in numerous international journals, art reviews and online publications such as Fence, American Letters & Commentary, The New York Quarterly, The Volta, Drunken Boat, Spiral Orb and BlazeVOX. SARAH LARIVIERE is a writer living in Austin, Texas and Paris, France. Her fictional work is represented by Susan Hawk at The Bent Agency in New York City. JENNIFER K DICK is the author of Circuits (2013), Fluorescence (2004) & the BlazeVox ebook Enclosures (2007) as well as 3 chapbooks.  She lives in France where she teaches at UHA, curates the Ivy Writers Paris bilingual reading series in Paris & co-organizes the Ecrire L'Art French mini-residency in Mulhouse. She is a poetry editor for VERSAL magazine & writes a regular poetics column for Tears in the Fence (UK). JACOB BROMBERG  is a poet, translator, and contributing editor to The White Review. He lives in Paris where he co-organizes the IVY Writers reading series. His work has appeared online and in print as part of the 2012 “Lex-ICON” text and image project in Mulhouse, France. Most recently, he has collaborated with visual artist Camille Henrot, writing the words to her film Grosse fatigue, to be featured at the 2013 Venice Biennale. The translations he will read tonight for IVY Writers Paris are part of a larger project for which he was invited to Rennes with Deborah Heissler this May as part of her writer’s residency.

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION: Ivy Writers Paris SPECIAL event PERFORMANCE AND POETRY NIGHT with a ONE-ACT play performance of AMELIORATION by Carole Pereira, directed by Catriona Laing this is an ORIGINAL CREATION based on a play written by well-known French poet and dramaturge David Lescot. This performance will be paired with great readings by two authors coming to us from their home in Barcelona, Spain: American author and Apogee press publisher Edward Smallfield and by American poet and publisher Valerie Coulton.

J.L. Pérignac au Théâtre de la Coupe d'Or et à Poitiers où elle dirigea une compagnie pendant trois ans. Elle a travaillé avec J.P. Berthomier, Eric Bergeonneau, Eric Chaussebourg avec qui elle a monté des textes comme La Femme Seule de Franca Rame, Barrouf à Chioggia de Goldoni, Don Juan revient de Guerre d'Horvath, Roberto Zucco de Koltès ou Les Co-épouses de Fatima Gallaire... A Paris, elle suit les cours de Martine Harmel au théâtre de la Danse, de J.L. Martinelli aux Amandiers, de Laurence Roy, et intègre la Compagnie du Cheval Noir pour y interpréter des personnages d'hommes et de femmes: Nora dans l'Ombre de la Vallée de Synge, Smirnov dans L'Ours de Tchekhov, John dans l'Usine de Dahlström... Catriona Laing, metteure en scène, fait du théâtre depuis l’âge de 7 ans et elle se forme au jeu d’acteur dans des compagnies à Nantes. Elle continue à Paris en suivant les cours de théâtre de texte avec Philippe Dormoy à l’école du Samovar. Elle s’intéresse à d’autres formes artistiques et ainsi elle intègre l’école du cirque Annie Fratellini. Elle pratique les claquettes depuis des années et se forme aussi à la danse contemporaine. Catriona Laing explore les divers champs de la création théâtrale, du jeu d'acteur à la mise en scène, en passant par la conception et la manipulation de marionnettes. Elle apprend la lumière et la production. Elle suit aussi un master en mise en scène et dramaturgie, ce qui lui permet de travailler auprès de différents metteurs en scène (Olivier Werner, David Lescot, Aurélia Guillet, Georges Lavaudant, Philippe Adrien). Depuis 2006 elle crée et met en scène des spectacles de théâtre pour la compagnie Whisky Time. Elle met en scène « les Présidentes » de Werner Schwab en 2007, « L'amélioration » d'après David Lescot, et prépare actuellement un projet sur Violette Leduc.

Né en 1971, David Lescot est auteur, musicien et metteur en scène. Il met en scène ses pièces : Les Conspirateurs (1999, TILF, Paris), L’association (2002, Théâtre de l’Aquarium, Paris) et L’amélioration (2004, Théâtre du Rond-Point, Paris). David Lescot participe à de nombreux festivals consacrés aux textes contemporains. Parallèlement, il enseigne les études théâtrales à l'Université Paris X (Nanterre) depuis 1999. Son écriture comme son travail scénique cherchent à intégrer d'autres formes au théâtre, en particulier la musique. En tant que musicien, il compose de nombreuses musiques de scène (Troïlus et Cressida de Shakespeare, Le Fou d’Elsa d’après Aragon; Le Bleu du Ciel d’après Georges Bataille et Bernard Noël). Il est le trompettiste du groupe afro-slave Bengflo. Il obtient en 2008 le Prix Nouveau Talent de la SACD, et le Grand Prix de littérature dramatique pour l'Européenne. Ses textes sont publiés aux Éditions Actes Sud-Papiers. Il est nominé aux Molière 2009 dans la catégorie «Révélation Théâtrale» pour La Commission centrale de l'enfance. En 2012, il met en scène Le système de Ponzi  et Les Jeunes au théâtre des Abesses à Paris.

CAROLE PEREIRA is a French actress and literature teacher. She plays Pascal in "l'Amélioration" a one-woman show based on a play by David Lescot. Carole Pereira trained with J.L. Pérignac at the Théâtre de la Coupe d'Or in Poitiers where she directed her own company for 3 years.  Having played many classic stage roles, she is currently exploring contemporary theatre and has also acted in a few short films and is looking into longer cinema projects.

Catriona Laing, DIRECTOR,  has been involved with theater since she was 7 and studied theater in an acting company in Nantes. In Paris, she studied under Philippe Dormoy at l’école du Samovar. Then she got involved with the l’école du cirque Annie Fratellini and tap danced for many years, as well as doing modern dance. Currently, Catriona Laing is exploring  the diverse fields of theater creation from directing and acting to puppet theater, light production while completing a Master in Directing and theater studies. Since 2006 she

has been creating and directing shows for Whisky Time. She directed « les Présidentes » by Werner Schwab in 2007, « L'amélioration » by David Lescot which is being presented in a different format here, and she is also currently working on a project on Violette Leduc

David Lescot is a young French contemporary playwrite and poet whose theater works have made the rounds of Europe and who was even nominated for a Molière award in 2009 in the discovery category. His play "L’Européenne", (published by Actes Sud-papiers, 2007), won the Grand prix for dramatic literature 2008. L’Européenne, directed by the author, was created at the Comedy Theatre, Reims, in May 2009, then played at the Napoliteatro festival in Naples, the Théâtre de la Ville Paris, the TNBA Bordeaux, the Grand Theatre Nantes, the Union Theatre Limoges, the Halle aux Grains Blois.
