Based in between Paris and New York City, Jérôme Game is a French author of 9 collections of poems, several CDs of sound poetry, a DVD of videopoems, and 6 volumes of essays. Salle d’embarquement, his first novel, came out last fall (L’Attente, 2017). Also shown in exhibitions as visual/textual installations, his poetry explores the shapes and flows of contemporary experience via those of discourses, narratives and images. Often collaborating with musicians, stage directors, and visual artists for collective performances, he regularly gives public readings of his work in Europe, North Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Later this year Flip-Book & other poems, a volume of English translations of his work, will come out in London with Barque Press (translated by Barbar Beck, with a preface by Nadja Cohen), and Ovni(s), the play he co-wrote, will premiere at the Avignon Festival in July 2018. www.jeromegame.com
Né en 1959 à Pau, Didier Bourda mène un travail d’écriture qui lui fait rassembler des matériaux hétérogènes, tant géographiques, ethnologiques, anthropologiques, politiques, sociologiques, historiques, linguistiques. De cette pluralité des sources naissent des textes qui fonctionnement par strates dont il s’attache à discerner les glissements. Certains ont parlé « d’une pensée non plus segmentée, atomisée, disjonctive mais profondément reliée, reliante ». Humour, précision dans son décryptage au plus près, au scalpel, une sorte de neutralité dans le regard, sont sa marque de fabrique. Il produit également des objets-video minimalistes avec le designer sonore Martin Antiphon et le plasticien Dimitri Vazemsky. Ce travail le conduit à définir un rapport non carné au texte (projection, écoute au casque) qui privilégie l’anti-spectacle. Quinze années de compagnonnage néanmoins avec la scène, souvent en duo avec l’accordéoniste improvisateur Jesus Aured. Il est Directeur artistique de Poésie dans les chais (64) depuis 2003.
Cole Swensen is the author of 17 books of poetry, most recently On Walking On, and a collection of critical essays. Her work has won a National Poetry Series, the Iowa Poetry Prize, and the San Francisco State Poetry Center Book Award and has been a finalist for the National Book Award. A former Guggenheim Fellow and co-editor of the Norton anthology American Hybrid, she also translates from French and has won the PEN USA Award in Literary Translation. She is Swensen is the author of thirteen collections of poetry and has translated ten books of poetry into English from French. Her most recent books include Gravesend (University of California Press, 2012), Stele (Post-Apollo Press, 2012), and Greensward (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2010). Her translation of Lazy Suzie by Suzanne Doppelt (Litmus Press, 2015) was nominated for the Best Translated Book Award and her translation of Island of the Dead by Jean Frémon (Green Integer, 2002) won the PEN USA Award for Literary Translation. In 2009, Swensen coedited American Hybrid: A Norton Anthology of New Poetry. A book of her essays on poetry, Noise That Stays Noise, was published by the University of Michigan Press in 2011.
Barbara Beck is a poet and translator. A selection of recent poems appears in women : poetry : migration [an anthology], edited by Jane Joritz-Nakagawa (Theenk Books, New York, 2017). Her translations of poems by Jérome Game appear in Writing the Real: A Bilingual Anthology of Contemporary French Poetry (Enitharmon Press, London, 2016) and in Flip-Book and Other Poems
(Barque Press, forthcoming). She has published translations of work by
Vannina Maestri, Dominique Quélen, Emmanuèle Jawad, Tahar Bekri and Cid
Corman. Since 2002, she has been editor of Upstairs at Duroc, the English-language journal published in Paris. She will be reading translations of Jérôme Game's work alongside him for this Ivy Writers Paris event.
