Among the guest readers who will be participating at this opening event, we have Kate Noakes (England), Lisa Pasold (Canada), Anna O (France), Aden Elias (France), Paul LaBorde (France), Bill Strangmeyer (USA), Frederic Benhaim (France and USA) and host co-curators Jacob Bromberg and Jennifer K Dick. 

This will be a reading by many voices as late afternoon falls into dusk, as the first official rentrée month moves towards its close, as the trains coming into the Gare de Lyon from the south carry fewer bikini and towel-toting visitors and gives way to the fall business folks.

Rebecca WOLFF is the author of three books of poems: Manderley (U. of Illinois Press, 2001), which was selected by Robert Pinsky for the National Poetry Series; Figment (W. W. Norton, 2004), which received the 2003 Barnard Women Poets Prize; and The King (Norton, 2009). She is equally the author of a novel, The Beginners (Riverhead, 2011).

Wolff is the founding editor of Fence, a biannual journal of poetry, fiction, and “other,” which is published in partnership with the Writers Institute and the University at Albany. She also founded Fence Books, which publishes poetry, fiction, and critical texts and anthologies. Wolff received her MFA from the Iowa Writers Workshop, where she was assistant editor of the Iowa Review. She lives in Athens, New York.

Graham FOUST is the author of five books of poetry – including Necessary Stranger (a finalist for the 2007 Northern California Book Award) and To Anacreon in Heaven and Other Poems, both from Flood Editions – and co-translator of Ernst Meister's Im Zetspalt [In Time's Rift] (Wave Books, 2012).  He works at the university of Denver.

Samuel FREDERICK is an assistant professor of German at the Pennsylvania State University. He is the author of Narratives Unsettled: Digression in Robert Walser, Thomas Bernhard, and Adalbert Stifter (Northwestern University Press) and co-translator of Ernst Meister's Im Zetspalt [In Time's Rift] (Wave Books, 2012).

Paul LABORDE is a poet and translator. His first book, Sables, was published in 2013 by Cheyne Éditeur in their Collection Grise. Laborde teaches philosophy at Paris IV - Sorbonne and plays basketball on the university's team.

JOSHUA MARIE WILKINSON est l’auteur de 5 recueils de poésie, notamment Lug Your Careless Body out of the Careful Dusk (University of Iowa Press 2006) et The Book of Whispering in the Projection Booth (Tupelo Press 2009). Ses poèmes ont parus dans les revues American Letters & Commentary, Boston Review, Chicago Sun-Times, Jubilat, New American Writing, Verse... et dans plusieures anthologies, notamment dans trois Diagram anthologies (New Michigan Press), dans Poets on Painters (Wichita State 2007) et dans A Broken Thing: Poets on the Line (University of Iowa Press 2011) et The Sonnets: Rewriting Shakespeare (Nightboat Books 2012). Des inédits paraîtront bientôt dans les anthologies Postmodern American Poetry (W.W. Norton 2013), HERE*NOW (University of Alabama Press 2013) et How Some Children Played at Slaughtering (Works on Paper Press 2013). Depuis 2006, JMZ rédige une séquence en 5 volumes qui s’intitule le No Volta pentalogy, qui inclut les ouvrages déjà parus  Selenography (avec des Polaroïdes de Tim Rutili, Sidebrow Books, 2010); Swamp Isthmus (Black Ocean 2013) et le volume à paraître The Courier's Archive & Hymnal (Sidebrow Books 2014). Il travaille également sur un ouvrage collaboratif avec le plasticien Noah Saterstro.

          En tant qu’éditeur, il a fondé la revue Rabbit Light Movies qui, pendant ses 5 années d’existence (2007-2011) a montré des poèmefilms de plus que 100 auteurs, et il est également ancien rédacteur pour The Denver Quarterly et pour Sonora Review. Il édite actuellement le site web dédié à la poésie The Volta et avec Noah Eli Gordon, Letter Machine Editions qu’ils ont fondé ensemble en 2007. Wilkinson a dirigé 2 anthologies édité par University of Iowa Press: 12x12: 21^st Century Poetry & Poetics (co-dirigé par Christina Mengert) et Poets on Teaching et prepare actuellement une édition de textes critiques sur l’œuvre d’Anne Carson pour University of Michigan Press. De plus, avec Lily Hoang, il co-dirige une anthologie en 2 volumes d’essais sur des intersections entre l’avant-garde et l’accessibilité. Cet ouvrage s’intitule The Force of What's Possible (Nightboat Books). D’ailleurs, avec Solan Jensen, il a dirigé un tour documentaire du groupe “Califone”: Made a Machine by Describing the Landscape (IndiePix Films 2011).

          JMW habite actuellement à Tucson, où il est assistant professor dans le department d’anglais et enseigne pour le programme d’MFA à l’Université d’Arizonie. PAUL LABORDE est poète et traducteur, son premier livre va paraître en 2013 chez Cheyne Editeur. Il vit à Paris où il enseigne l'esthétique et la philosophie de l'art. Ce soir pour Ivy Writers Paris, il lira ses traductions de quelques poèmes inédits de Joshua Marie Wilkinson.

DOT DEVOTA: vient du middle ouest des Etats-Unis. Elle est née d’une famille de ranchers et de stars des rodéos. Elle est l’auteure de 3 livres—And the Girls Worried Terribly (Noemi Press, 2013), The Eternal Wall (Cannibal Books, 2010), et MW: A Midwest Field Guide (Editions19\). Ses poèmes récents et sa prose non-fiction paraient dans Make Magazine, Volt, Denver Quarterly, Word For/Word, Tarpaulin Sky et en traduction en arabe dans le quotidien politique As-Safir. Elle a obtenu sa MFA (maîtrise en beaux arts en écriture) de l’Université de Montana et sa double licence en anglais et sociologie de l’Université d’Arizoni. Elle a enseigné à plusieurs universités aux USA et actuellement elle dirige le Kaohsiung Summer Institute for Writing and the Arts à Taiwan et voyage à plein temps.

VIRGINIE POITRASSON lira des traductions de quelques poèmes inédits de Dot Devota. Virginie est écrivain, traductrice, plasticienne et performeuse qui « explore les frontières entre les genres et les modes d'expression langagiers et plastiques (sons, vidéos, sérigraphie). » Elle est l’auteure de Il faut toujours garder en tête une formule magique (éditions de l’Attente), Vraisemblance du perméable (éditions Méridianes), Journal d'une disparition (Ink #1),  Tendre les liens (Publie.net), Nous sommes des dispositifs (La Camera verde), Demi-valeurs (éditions de l’Attente), Série ombragée (Propos2 éditions) et Épisodes de la lueur (L'Atelier du Hanneton). En tant que traductrice, elle a traduit des poètes américains Michaël Palmer, Lyn Hejinian, Cole Swensen, Marylin Hacker, Charles Bernstein, Jennifer K. Dick, Michelle Noteboom, Jennifer Scappetone, Shanxing Wang, Rodrigo Toscano et Laura Elrick—deux recueils de traductions ont été édité First figure (Première figure) de Michael Palmer (co-traduit avec Éric Suchère, publié chez José Corti) et Slowly (Lentement) de Lyn Hejinian (Format Américain). Ce soir pour Ivy Writers Paris Virginie Poitrasson lira ses nouvelles traductions des poèmes inédits de Dot Devota.

ZACHARY SCHOMBURG vit à Portland, Oregon et est l’auteur de The Man Suit (2007), Scary, No Scary (2009) et Fjords vol. 1 (2012). Un recueil qui est à paraître en 2013 s’intitule The Book of Joshua. Il est également traducteur du français vers l’anglais et travaille actuellement sur une traduction de Quelques Animaux de Transport et de Compagnie (Harpo &, 2004) écrit par Jacques Rebotier. Zachary Schomburg est l’éditeur d’Octopus Books. Il est né en 1977 et déclare qu’il n’est pas encore entièrement mort.

JACQUES REBOTIER (né en 1950) peut être défini comme un créateur inclassable de par ses multiples activités : écrivain, poète, compositeur, comédien, metteur en scène. Il est l’auteur de nombreux ouvrages, entre autres, de Litaniques (2000) et Le Dos de la langue (2001) dans la collection « L’Arbalète » (Gallimard). Son théâtre est publié par Les solitaires intempestifs : Le Désordre des langages, 1, 2, 3 (1998-1999) ; Vengeance tardive (2001) ; La Vie est courbe (2001) ; Réponse à la question précédente (2002). « Son style est caractérisé par une constante proximité des marges et un malin plaisir à transgresser les codes. Ses créations, interpellations conviendrait mieux, sont tout à la fois point de vue sur l'état du monde, critique des rapports humains, travail sur la mécanique des mots, mais toujours parcourues d'une énergie joyeuse. Elles mêlent lecture-performance, concert-performance, poésie, photographie, montages vidéo, théâtre-installation... et s'articulent autour d'une écriture exigeante. Il fonde en 1992 la compagnie VoQue, dont le nom est un condensé de voix, invocation, équivoque. » Ce soir pour Ivy Writers Paris nous aurons le plaisir d’entendre ses traductions inédits de quelques poèmes de Zachary Schomburg.

BRANDON SHIMODA est l’auteur de 4 recueils de poésie—Portuguese (Octopus Books & Tin House, 2013), O Bon (Litmus Press, 2011), The Girl Without Arms (Black Ocean, 2011) et The Alps (Flim Forum Press, 2008). Il rédige actuellement sa cinquième livre (intitulé Evening Oracle) qui sera un recueil de poèmes, de la prose, de dessins et même d’un questionnaire intitulé A Giant Asleep in Fortune’s Spindle. Il travaille en parallèle sur un livre qui serait une documentaire de la vie de son grand-père paternel, Midori Shimoda, intitulé The Grave on the Wall. Il espère le terminer avant sa quarantième anniversaire (le 6 août 2018). En tant que rédacteur, et avec le poète et critique Thom Donovan, Brandon Shimoda co-dirige une collection rétrospective des écrits de l’auteure, poète et peintre Etel Adnan, actuellement basée à Paris. Shimoda a fait des lectures-performances de ses poèmes aux Etats-Unis, à Tokyo, à Beirut et à Damascus—où ses poèmes ont été traduits en arabe, et il a travaillé en tant que curateur, éditeur ou rédacteur pour le Aldrich Museum, CutBank, Fence Magazine/Fence Books, Kaohsiung American School, le Missoula Art Museum, l’Université de Montana Creative Writing Program, Muthafucka, le New Lakes Reading Series, Octopus Books et Octopus Magazine, Slope, l’Université d’Arizonie Centre de Poésie et Wave Books. ZACHARY SCHOMBURG lives in Portland, Oregon, and is the author of The Man Suit (2007), Scary, No Scary (2009), Fjords vol. 1 (2012), and a forthcoming book called The Book of Joshua. He is currently translating a book of french poems by Jacques Rebotier called Quelques Animaux de Transport et de Compagnie (Harpo &, 2004). He also co-edits Octopus Books. He was born in 1977 and is still not quite dead. Extract from a poem by Z Schomburg :"Every time the plane lifts off I know a secret the others don’t. The plane will break in half. I’ll spill out and land on top of a beautiful woman who is riding a horse. We’ll be naked and broken beneath the mud, our mouths open, and from this exact fall from the plane I’m the only one who will never die."

DOT DEVOTA: From the Midwestern United States, the poet DOT DEVOTA was born into a family of ranchers and rodeo stars. She is the author of And the Girls Worried Terribly (Noemi Press, 2013), The Eternal Wall (Cannibal Books, 2010), and MW: A Midwest Field Guide (Editions19\). Her poems and nonfiction most recently appear in Make Magazine, Volt, Denver Quarterly, Word For/Word, and Tarpaulin Sky, with translations into Arabic for the political daily As-Safir. Receiving an MFA from the University of Montana and a BA in English and Sociology from the University of Arizona, she has taught at multiple universities and colleges in the states. Currently she co-directs The Kaohsiung Summer Institute for Writing and the Arts in Taiwan and travels full time.

BRANDON SHIMODA was born in California, and has since lived in eleven states and five countries, mostly recently Maine, Taiwan, and Arizona. He is the author of four books of poetry—Portuguese (Octopus Books & Tin House, 2013), O Bon (Litmus Press, 2011), The Girl Without Arms (Black Ocean, 2011), and The Alps (Flim Forum Press, 2008), the last of which commemorates his parents’ marriage in the Swiss Alps, 1972—as well as numerous limited editions of collaborations, drawings, writings, and songs. He has curated, edited, read, taught and/or worked for the Aldrich Museum, CutBank, Fence Magazine/Fence Books, Kaohsiung American School, the Missoula Art Museum, the University of Montana Creative Writing Program, Muthafucka, the New Lakes Reading Series, Octopus Books & Octopus Magazine, Slope, the University of Arizona Poetry Center, and Wave Books. He has read publicly throughout the United States, in Beirut and Damascus—where his poems were translated into Arabic—and Tokyo. With poet-critic Thom Donovan, he is co-editing a retrospective collection of writings by Paris-based poet-painter Etel Adnan. He is currently working on a fifth book of poetry (titled, Evening Oracle); a multi-volume book of poems, prose, drawings and a questionnaire (titled, A Giant Asleep in Fortune’s Spindle); and a documentary/book on the life of his paternal grandfather Midori Shimoda (titled, The Grave on the Wall), which he hopes to finish by his 40^th birthday, on August 6, 2018.
