La saison 2017-2018 prend forme.

3 Octobre 2017 à 19h30 : Lectures et musique, en anglais et en français avec Bremner Duthie, George Vance, Jason Stoneking and Donald Tournier for PLU (Paris Lit Up) issue 4. AT: Café du Pont Neuf, 14 Quai du Louvre, 75001 Paris

17 Octobre 2017 à 19h30 : Lecture bilingue avec Laura Mullen (USA) et Vincent Broqua (France) au Delaville Café, 34 bvd bonne nouvelle, 75010 M° Bonne Nouvelle.

21 Novembre 2017 à 19h30 : Lecture bilingue avec Eugene Ostachevsky, Mark Tardi et auteur français (à confirmer, suite à une modification). L'adresse de la soirée est aussi encore à confirmer.

5 Decembre 2017 à 19h30 : Soirée Catalane: Pour la revue “Parentheses” de Barcelone. The Barcelona Parentheses magazine, with readers in Catalan, French and English for this “Jen’s Birthday evening” reading! Including French poet Marie Borel. At: Berkeley Books of Paris, 8 rue Casimir Delavigne, 75006 Paris. M° Odéon.

20 Mars 2018 : Lecture bilingue--SOIREE AMERICAINE en TRADUCTION Laynie Brown, Lee-Ann Brown et Norman Fischer: three amazing American authors in France presented with new translations of their poetry into French! Présentation et lectures des extraits de nouvelles traductions de ces 3 poètes en français. Adresse de la soirée à confirmer.

Date à préciser en : Avril 2018 : Soirée Prose expérimentale! Mai : Lecture bilingue et SOIREE DE POESIE FRANCAISE en TRADUCTION avec Vannina Maëstri, Eric Hauser & TBConfirmed. Trois écrivains qui liront des textes en français suivis par des lectures des nouvelles traductions en anglais.

Rentrée Evening IWP with Paris Lit Up issue 4 featuring Jason Stoneking and Donald Tournier, returning once-local Paris poet George Vance (on leave from Guadaloupe!) and all of this alongside the styling showmanship of Bremner Duthie, who will be sharing some of his recent songs with us! 

It is a rare opportunity Ivy Writers Paris will be offering next week with the styling music of cabaret singer and performer Bremner Duthie and readings by writers published in Paris Lit Up magazine—Jason Stoneking and Donald Tournier as well as our well-loved returning author and friend, George Vance.

BIOS :

George Vance: long-time resident of  Paris, with passages in Brussels, Nouméa, Reims, and presently in Guadeloupe;  hybrid poet, mixed media; has read at various Paris venues (UAD, Poets Live, Ivy, Quadriphonics, Spoken Word); his work has appeared in UAD, Bastille, Pharos. Poetry volumes  A SHORT CIRCUIT and Xmas collage published with corrupt press. Currently working on text-transformation project based on Infinite Jest. Scribbles daily.

Jason Stoneking: is an American poet, essayist, and performance artist based in Paris, France. He has authored two volumes of poetry and four collections of essays, and has performed his art and writing for more than twenty-five years at venues ranging from the main stage at Lollapalooza to the Pont Neuf in Paris and the rooftops of Cairo. His writing has been featured in numerous online and print publications, including the current issues of Paris Lit Up and Post Road. He has also written screenplays, rock music, and chess journalism. He is currently working on a series of bespoke, handwritten books by commission. He is inspired by the idea that we are all hurtling through an infinite black void for no reason. Donald Tournier: was born in Brussels and raised in Hong Kong. He writes in English and French, also publishing under the name Donald Ciechanowski. He sells his French poetry on the Paris metro under the name Mark Tapley. He has published a collection of French poems, Ouroboros. He is a contributor and editor of the francophone trimestrial review NAMO.

Bremner Duthie:  was born in New York and grew up in the USA, Scotland and Canada. Singing is all he ever wanted to do. Every afternoon in New York, his family could hear him coming down the street as he sang his way home from school. He started singing with Punk Rock bands, moved on to studying and performing Opera, and trained in contemporary vocal music at the 'Centre for New Opera' in Banff. He has sung operatic roles by Mozart and avant-garde masterpieces like Maxwell Davies' 'Eight Songs for a Mad King'.  Bremner has performed across North America and Europe in theatre and in concert, working with chamber ensembles, orchestras and jazz quartets. He currently lives between New Orleans, Montreal and Paris and is singing songs from the birth of jazz, the innovative, ground- breaking repertoire of the 1920's & 30's.  Over the past decade, Bremner has been exploring New Cabaret, creating performance pieces that are an emotional collage of ideas and songs. These pieces have been performed across North America and Europe to critical praise:   "A stunning theatrical achievement"—Edmonton Journal. "Duthie brings passion, power and conviction to the songs"—The Stage. "Captivating performances of Kurt Weill's songs... beautifully delivered with power and emotion"—Edfringe Review. "Duthie is a baritone with operatic scope; instead of mere interludes, the songs become weapons”—See Magazine, Canada. “And my god, does he ever sing. Bremner's performance is jaw-dropping-my jaw literally dropped"—View Magazine. His first recording, Bremner Sings Kurt Weill, was devoted to his own personal obsession, the extraordinary songs of Kurt Weill. Bremner recorded sparse, heartfelt versions of Weill's repertoire, which stretches from the streets of 1920's Berlin to the dazzling lights of Broadway.  For his second CD, The Sky Was Blue, he asked the question "What is a jazz standard?". As an answer, Bremner created swinging arrangements of songs from his youth, from the Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, Joni Mitchell and others, placing them side by side with more traditional jazz standards. His latest recording, '33(a kabarett), is a 'concept album', an exploration of musical, emotional, sexual and political inspirations behind the idea of Cabaret, with new arrangements of songs by Weill, Hollaender, Noel Coward and Sondheim.

Bremner has performed in venues that vary from 3000 seat arenas in Tokyo, to improvised atelier-lofts in Paris and Edinburgh, to table-top stages in hard-drinking bars in the small Canadian towns along Lake Superior. He says that each had its own particular delights.

(En) Kevin Craft lives in Seattle and directs the Written Arts Program at Everett Community College. His first book, Solar Prominence (2005), was selected by Vern Rutsala for the Gorsline Prize from Cloudbank Books. A new collection, Vagrants & Accidentals, has just been published in the Pacific Northwest Poets Series of the University of Washington Press. His poems, reviews, and essays have appeared widely in such places as Poetry, The Kenyon Review, New England Review, and The Stranger. He has received fellowships and awards from the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, MacDowell Colony, the Bogliasco Foundation (Italy), the Camargo Foundation (France), 4Culture, The Jack Straw Cultural Center, and Artist Trust. Craft served as editor of Poetry Northwest from 2009 - 2016. He is now executive editor of Poetry NW Editions, and a director of the UW Writers in Rome program which he has led for nearly 20 years. He believes that poems, like good travelers, live in the go-between. 

(Fr) Sabine Macher, née en Allemagne de l’ouest, arrive en France en 1976 pendant son parcours d’études germaniques. Au début des années 80 elle se tourne vers la danse et y entame un double parcours d’interprète et d’auteur-chorégraphe, principalement dans le champs de la danse contemporaine, mais aussi dans celui du théâtre et de la performance. A cela s’ajoute une pratique d’écriture qui prend la forme du livre à partir de 1992, associant parfois la photographie, la traduction, mais aussi des pièces sonores et créations radiophoniques, restituant une place à l’oralité propre à la poésie et au documentaire. Cet ensemble de désirs et d’activités produit des formes tantôt collectives, tantôt solitaires, en tension entre l’intime et le social, le théâtre et l’espace urbain, articulées par la rencontre et le hasard. Derniers livres parus : Deux coussins pour Norbert (Le bleu du ciel, 2009) et Résidence absolue (Isabelle Sauvage, 2011). Dernière traduction : Je rêve que je vis ? (En) Charles Borkhuis is a poet and playwright living in NYC. His nine books of poetry include: Finely Tuned Static with paintings by John McCluskey (Lunar Chandelier, 2017). Dead Ringer (BlazeVox, 2017), Disappearing Acts (Chax 2014), Afterimage (Chax, 2006 ). His plays have been produced in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Hartford, and Paris. His two radio plays were aired over NPR and can be heard on www.pennsound.

(Fr) >> Lynn Emanuel a publié jusqu’à présent cinq recueils de poèmes : Hotel Fiesta, The Dig, Then, Suddenly—, Noose and Hook et, plus récemment, The Nerve of It: Poems New and Selected, pour lequel elle a remporté le prestigieux Prix de poésie Lenore Marshall de L'Académie des poètes américains en 2016. Son travail a été présenté dans The Pushcart Prize Anthology et The Best American Poetry à plusieurs reprises et figure également dans The Oxford Book of American Poetry. Elle a bénéficié de deux bourses de la National Endowment for the Arts, a également été récompensée par le National Poetry Series Award ainsi que le Eric Matthieu King Award de l'Académie des poètes américains et, tout dernièrement, a pu bénéficier d'une bourse de la Fondation Ranieri. Ses textes seront lus en anglais et en français en traduction par Simone Manceau
