BIOS/BIBLIOS:

Mark Wallace is the author of a number of books and chapbooks of poetry, fiction, and criticism. “Temporary Worker Rides A Subway” won the 2002 Gertrude Stein Poetry Award and was published by Green Integer Books. He is the author of a multi-genre work, “Haze”, and a novel, “Dead Carnival”. His critical articles and reviews have appeared in numerous publications, and along with Steven Marks, he edited “Telling It Slant: Avant Garde Poetics of the 1990s” (University of Alabama Press), a collection of 26 essays by different writers. Most recently he has published a collection of tales, “Walking Dreams”, and a book of poems, “Felonies of Illusion”. He teaches at California State University, San Marcos.

K. Lorraine Graham is a writer and visual artist. Graham is the author of “Terminal Humming” (Edge Books, 2009), as well as the recording “Moving Walkways” (Narrowhouse Recordings, 2006) and numerous chapbooks, including “And so for you there is no heartbreak” (Dusie Kollektiv, 2008), “Diverse Speculations Descending Therefrom” (Dusie Kollektiv, 2007), “See It Everywhere” (Big Game Books, 2006), “Terminal Humming” (Slack Buddha Press, 2004), With Mark Wallace, 1994-2004 (Subpoetics Self-Publish or Perish, 2004), “Dear [Blank] I Believe in Other Worlds” (Phylum Press, 2003) and “It Does Not Go Back” (Subpoetics Self-Publish or Perish, 2002). “Large Waves to Large Obstacles” is forthcoming from Take Home Project. Akilah Oliver is the author of 4 books of poetry: A Toast in the House of Friends (CoffeeHouse, 2009), a(A)ugust (Yo-Yo Labs, 2007), The Putterer’s Notebook (Belladonna, 2006), An Arriving Guard of Angels, Thusly Coming to Greet (Farfalla, 2004). A book of experimental prose poetry the she said dialogues: flesh memory (Smokeproof/Erudite Fangs, 1999) received the PEN American Center’s “Beyond Margins/Open Book” award. She is co-founder of the avant-garde, feminist performance group, The Sacred Naked Nature Girls (SNNG, 1994-1997) whose work is the subject of critical study in performance theory, found in In Other Los Angeleses: Multicentric Performance Art, (Meiling Cheng, Univ. of CA Press, 2002). Charles Bernstein said of A Toast in the House of Friends, “This poetry is a holding space, a folded grace, in which objects held most dear disappear to return as radiant moments of memory’s forgiving home”. Alice Notley comments, “Akilah Oiiver’s book is an extraordinary gift for everyone, pushing beyond itself into the aura of holy graffiti in the big night, unstable shapes that won’t break.” Oliver’s work can be found online at PennSound. NOTE: Akilah will collaborate with trumpeter Rasul Siddik. Siddick was born in St. Louis, MO. He is an internationally acclaimed jazz musician and recording artist who has worked with the Now Artet, David Murray, Archie Shepp, Kirk Lightsey, Katy Roberts, Sunny Murray, Joe Lee Wilson and Steve Mac Craven’s group “Black Studies”. He lives in Paris. Translations will be read by Poet & translator Martin Richet, his bio listed under his reading last fall: click HERE for it.

Virginie Lalucq est née en 1975 et vit à Paris. Elle est l’auteure de Couper les tiges (Act Mem/ Comp'act, 2001) et de Fortino Samano (avec Jean-Luc-Nancy, Galilée 2004). Elle a participé à l'anthologie Autres territoires, dirigée par Henri Deluy (Ferrago/Leo Scheer, 2003) dans laquelle elle écrit « Cisailles, butée, copeaux », et a publié dans plusieurs revues, notamment Action poétique, Action restreinte, L'Animal, Les cahiers de Benjy, Issue, Java, Nioques, Les Lettres françaises, La revue des ressources, Les70.com... Elle est également membre du comité de rédaction de la revue Nioques. ENS déclare que « Un désir certain d'expérimentation caractérise son travail, désir qui se traduit notamment par de nombreux projets d'écriture et de performances collectifs, et par l'utilisation de matériaux et supports divers. » Elle a publié ses textes traduits en espagnol dans Vertebra (Chili) et participe enfin aux Lettres françaises (supplément culturel de l'Humanité).

Bios:

Adeena Karasick is an internationally acclaimed poet and media-artist, and the author of six books of poetry and poetic theory: The House That Hijack Built (Talonbooks, 2004),The Arugula Fugues (Zasterle Press, 2001), Dyssemia Sleaze (Talonbooks, Spring 2000), Genrecide (Talonbooks, 1996), Mêmewars (Talonbooks, 1994), and The Empress Has No Closure (Talonbooks, 1992), as well as 4 videopoems all available on YouTube. Engaged with the art of combination and turbulence of thought, her work is a testament to the creative and regenerative power of language and its infinite possibilities for pushing meaning to the limits of its semantic boundaries. She was recently granted the MPS Mobile Award as being the world’s first “Mobile Poet” whereby her work is being made available on mobile devices (cell phones and smart phones). She is Professor of Poetry and Cultural Theory at City University of New York. Forthcoming is Amuse Bouche: Tasty Treats for the Mouth (Talonbooks 2009). Her writing has been described as "electricity in language" (Nicole Brossard).

Gwenaëlle Stubbe, d’origine belge, est poète, prosateur et dramaturge francophone établie à Paris depuis 5 ans. Elle a fait des études de lettres (maîtrise sur le poète belge contemporain Carl Norac, agrégation, D.E.A sur les processus de création en jeu dans l'écriture en général et plus particulièrement dans les ateliers d'écriture). Elle prépare actuellement un doctorat sur la poésie contemporaine (fonctions de la répétition) à l'École normale supérieure de Lyon. Gwenaëlle a publié dans de nombreuses anthologies et revues, et a sorti quatre livres : Le héros et sa créature (le Cormier, 2002) ; L’incroyable histoire du grand Gelbe, pièce de théâtre co-écrite avec Laurence Vielle (l’Ambedui, 2000) ; Un serpent de fumée, poésie illustrée par Camille de Taeye, préface de Marcel Moreau (éditions la Pierre d’Alun, 1999) ; et dernièrement Salut salut Marxus (éditions Al Dante, 2006) Elle participe à la création du groupe VEGA, 6 écrivains en discussion permanente. Elle fait régulièrement des performances en français et en flamand partout en Europe et à l’étranger.

Polytechnique students Divya Babin, an unknown friend and Rémi Ferrier stand by Michelle Naka Pierce after her reading. The students, along with François de Peaudecerf (Polytechnique) and Vasilena Kossastakis (EHESS) translated and read selections in French of Naka Pierce and Pusateri's poems, while selected translations of Chapelle's work were read by co-curators Michelle Noteboom & Jennifer K Dick.
